Let me start off by saying that I would have spent my life as a professional student if someone had financed me. So I like to study and delve into any topic that I become involved with as part of my life. As a 20 year successful BlackJack card counter I know the value of learning the craft when it comes to gambling. I have transitioned to poker the last two years – online and live NL.
I read and study poker 2 hours 5 days a week (I am a retired CPA) and I found when I began to learn the game that poker educational and training materials are a real intense cottage industry. So many coaches/professionals/others are trying to capitalize monetarily on the worldwide “poker craze”. I am VERY selective not only in how I spend my poker education dollars, but even more importantly I am very, very stingy with my time – I want the material I choose to make the hours I put in worth it.
One of my areas of education concentration this year was on poker math and when I searched for a poker math course I found Alton Hardin’s course. It was not only reasonable priced but very thorough. I became hooked on Alton as my teacher/coach. I have bought his Blueprint course, his Crush course, his Conquer course, and the Exploitative Course. Bedsides having finished the Math course I have almost completed the Blueprint Course and I am half-way through the Crush course – I have watched many of the lectures twice already through the pre-flop section of Crush and I am making “cheat” sheets and outlining strategy points.
And not to make him blush – but Alton is just one of those rare individuals that knows how to pull together a course, explain it very well, and produce effective videos and PDF’s. He is not a teacher – he is a professor!
From the other books and videos and forums and articles I have studied the past two years I have had this “muddled” head of numerous various aspects of the game. What I lacked was pulling it all together in a conceptual framework that flowed. A way if you please to have a decision path that worked through the various dimensions of what is really a multi-tiered simultaneous equation. That is what Alton does in his courses – he teaches you how to be a multi-dimensional thinking player.
He presents concepts and theory but then translates them into real play decision making. Providing guidelines and then demonstrating very effectively through live play modules and hand history replay modules.
The courses are extensive and very thorough with the lessons flowing together. You will need to commit time but you will enjoy the journey.
I rely extensively on reviews when I purchase so I wanted to take the time here to give a detailed review of Alton Hardin and his courses. I am just a “regular” customer of Alton and am in no way associated with him in any other way. Since buying his courses we have e-mailed several times back and forth as I have had some questions, but that in itself has been a nice extension of his care for his students.
